Fuses

Littelfuse has been depended on to provide the industry best fuses for over 80 years. Today, you can still rely on their ingenuity, creativity, and quality manufacturing to deliver top quality products to protect your equipment and personnel. They are always on top of the most current changes in the various codes and requirements in order to provide the best, up-to-date fuses for every, and more importantly, your application

In electronics and engineering, a fuse is a kind of low resistance resistor that acts as a kill device to produce overcurrent protection, of either the load or supply circuit. Its essential part is a metal wire or strip that melts once an excessive amount of current flows through it, interrupting the circuit that it connects. Short circuits, overloading, mismatched loads, or device failure are the prime reasons for excessive current. Fuses are often used as alternatives to circuit breakers.
A fuse interrupts an excessive current so more harm by heating or fire is prevented. Wiring rules typically outline a peak fuse current rating for specific circuits. Overcurrent protection devices are essential in electrical systems to limit threats to human life and property damage. The time and current operational characteristics of fuses are chosen to supply adequate protection while not allowing unnecessary interruption. Slow blow fuses are designed to permit harmless short term currents over their rating while still interrupting a sustained overload. Fuses are made in a very wide range of current and voltage ratings to safeguard wiring systems and electrical instrumentation. Self-resetting fuses mechanically restore the circuit once the overload has cleared, and are helpful in environments when maintenance personnel replacing a blown fuse would be troublesome or not possible, as an example in aerospace or nuclear applications.
