Motor Circuit Controllers

The Sprecher + Schuh KT7 Motor Circuit Controller family is a versatile and advanced control product. KTAs provide current limiting short circuit protection, Class 10 thermal overload protection, as well as approved disconnect and signaling for motors up to 30HP. KTA7 (when Design B motors are used) and KTC7 (for when Design E motors are used) are UL listed for Construction Type E applications. KTB7 is a short circuit only product for use when this is required. Also available is the KTU7 which is a UL489 Molded Case Circuit Breaker from .5 to 30 amps and has a high interrupting capacity of up to 100KA.

New to the KT7 family is the KTV7 products which are combination motor controllers that are suitable for use on the output of VFD inverters in multi-motor installations. They provide individual overload protection in multi-motor applications as required by NEC §430, part III.

KTV7 provides the following protective and control functions:

  • Disconnect means for motor branch circuit
  • Branch-circuit, short-circuit protection
  • Thermal overload protection
  • Manual (ON/OFF) Control

UL and cUL listings allow the KTV7 to be used in two types of applications:

  • Manual, Self-protected Motor Controller
  • Manual Motor Controller with approval for group installation

When UL/CSA listed as a manual, self-protected combination motor controller, the KTV7 provides all that is needed to satisfy the NEC requirements for protection and control of individual motor branch circuits without the need for separate overload protection or other protective devices (per NEC 430-52C option 6).

When KTV7 devices are installed as manual motor controllers for group installations, then NEC group installation rules require that devices must be applied per the appropriate rules, which require the use of an upstream branch circuit protection device (per NEC 430-53C option 2).

Suitable for use with Variable Frequency Drives

The output frequency of a VFD must be limited to 400Hz or less to prevent thermal breakdown. Various versions of the KTV7 family of self-protected combination motor controllers provide a disconnect means for motor branch circuits, branch-circuit and short-circuit protection, overload/thermal protection and manual switching. The various KTV7 controllers are current limiting and have a fixed magnetic trip. Interrupt ratings are available up to 65Ka. The VFD output PWM frequency must be limited to 4 kilohertz or less. The circuit breakers provide class 10 trip motor overload protection.

The addition of the KTV7 product into the industry-best KT7 family gives ISE Controls in Indianapolis, Indiana the broadest most reliable package of Motor Circuit Controllers on the market. Contact ISE Controls for help today.
