When your application requires the control cabinet to reside within the hazardous location, you do not necessarily need to utilize heavy, costly, NEMA 7/9 bolted enclosures. You can use standard industrially rated enclosures and install a purge system onto the enclosure which will prevent sparks from igniting and protect people and equipment in the area. There are purge systems that will reduce a Class 1 Division 2 installation to non-hazardous, and there are purge systems that will reduce a Class1 Division 1 installation to non-hazardous. Expo Technologies manufactures these as well as other systems such as motor purge systems. The basic principle is that the purge system continually keeps a positive pressure inside the enclosure of an inert gas such as nitrogen. This prevents any sparking from igniting and resulting in an explosion in the hazardous location.
• Z-Purge reduces Class 1 Div 2 area to non-hazardous
• X-Purge reduces Class 1 Div 1 area to non-hazardous
• Compact Mini-Z-purge system can mount flat on the side wall of the enclosure and not protrude out from it
• Various sizes are determined by the size of enclosure and the gas flow required
